Project Summary:
Through the outreach program of our senior show which Mean Girls: High School Version, along with the Service Club, we ran a very successful “On Wednesdays we wear Pink” campaign in the month of February. This was run by the student Drama and Service Stewards. On Wednesdays we paid $2 and wore pink, we sent positive, anti-bullying messages throughout the school and our stewards spoke at our Wednesday assemblies and wrote in our newsletter.

The Art department created and sold tote bags with body affirming or uplifting messages inside. This project was entitled “leave your baggage at the door”. In addition to the totes they created an “Art Bom” titled “Don’t Project on Me” where they set up a projector at the front door of the school for all to be projected on with their empowering images as they walked through the door and into the foyer. We held discussions about the subversive bullying that happens in high schools and how we can only affect change by being the change. Personally, albeit small, I did notice some small differences in behavior that came out of this campaign.
