Empowering Youth

to make positive impacts in their communities

Since 2022, the Pink Shirt Project has been introduced to over 8,000 youth across Canada.

Each youth participant receives a project manual that helps:

  1. identify matters of concern
  2. focus on a positive, do-able solution
  3. develop a plan
  4. act on the plan

The Pink Shirt Project trains and motivates Canadian youth to create and implement projects that address issues that concern them. Participants discuss topics of interest and come together in a facilitated approach to decide how to make positive changes. Perfect for a classroom or another small group, with the help of a facilitator, youth explore themes of diversity, inclusion and social responsibility and implement their very own projects. Included is training in the Creative Process, themes of diversity and inclusion, and an introduction to the UN Rights of the Child. This is an excellent way to learn several valuable life skills!

Tell Canadians about your project! You can submit it for possible inclusion on the Pink Shirt Day Canada show, broadcast annually on the last day of February. Submit project videos and permissions to [email protected].

Pink Shirt Project and the Pink Shirt Day Canada show are initiatives of the WITS Programs Foundation.

Quotes

from program facilitators

I really enjoyed the program and truly thought it was beneficial and impactful to my grade 8’s. I saw them shine in leadership roles and come together as a group and work together. We spent months organizing, preparing, creating, and facilitating their projects. I just wanted to pass along the great experience we had and how the other two grade 8 classes were jealous they didn’t get to do the Pink Shirt Project!

The students had been linking civic action initiatives to the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. Their Pink Shirt Projects… touched on Inclusion/Anti-racism, Mental Health and Well-Being, Food Insecurities, Climate Change and Poverty. I love this program and would love to start Term 2 by introducing it to my next International Citizenship and Understanding Class.

…we ran a very successful “On Wednesdays we wear Pink” campaign in the month of February. The Art department created and sold tote bags with body affirming or uplifting messages inside. We held discussions about the subversive bullying that happens in high schools and how we can only affect change by being the change. Personally, albeit small, I did notice some small differences in behaviour that came out of this campaign.
